About ikeru
ikeru is an exploration of identity, belief, and musical experimentation. Reflecting Midi Neutron’s Japanese American heritage, ikeru is a project that weaves together a tapestry of musical genres and influences that seeks to push boundaries. The album narrates personal growth, beginning with jazz and hip-hop-influenced beats, featuring live instrumentation throughout the project and gradually delves into the more abstract realms, influenced by NYC’s experimental hip-hop sound. Electronic textures makeup a consistent supporting theme throughout the project, speaking to Midi Neutron’s core sound. It features collaborations with artists like vocalists Nakama and Yoh from Poetic Thrust, up-and-coming jazz saxophonist Alfredo Colón, childhood best friend Zonkey, and many more.
